Philosophy

The Redlands Centre for Women exists to uplift women to take charge of and improve their lives, to provide opportunities for education around topics that are important to them, and to connect them with the people, services and programs that will help them to do this.

Mission

As a not for profit charity & community service for women, we aspire to:  

  • Provide women in the Redlands with a sense of belonging to a community, so they don’t feel isolated in what they’re doing or going through; and
  • Give women an opportunity to share their experiences, connect with others who are going through a similar experience, and know that they are not alone in their situation or experience.

Our Story

The Redlands Centre for Women is a not for profit charity based in Cleveland Queensland, that exists to support women with knowledge and friendship. The Centre offers a range of activities and social outings, for women to help them establish confidence, direction, support, friendships and knowledge, in order to live stronger, more fulfilled lives.

The Centre provides a welcoming hub, servicing women in the Redlands community from teenagers to retirees. Women from all ages and stages in their lives experience and participate in the various events and activities we run.

The charity was founded in 2008 by former single mother, Katrina Beutel, who had a desire to help women in the community. With just $100 donated from her church, Katrina gathered together a group of like-minded women to give Pink Pamper Packs to women in need throughout the community.  From there, the charity has grown to be incorporated and has DGR status. In 2013 Pink Pamper Packs changed names to be the Redlands Centre for Women Inc.

The Centre is managed by a passionate and dedicated volunteer Management Team with a broad range of skills and experience in business, finance, and social work. This committee is supported by a team of committed, highly capable and experienced volunteers who coordinate all the centre’s activities.

In 2019 the Centre signed a 5 year lease with the Redlands City Council, and our home is now the Old Stationmasters Cottage, which is located at 120 Shore Street North, Cleveland.

Since 2008 the RCW has delivered the following services (year introduced):

  • Redlands Active Women (RAW) program (2015)
  • Nurture Packs for Mums who have just given birth (2014)
  • Book Club, craft programs and opportunities to volunteer (2014)
  • Coffee chats to connect women (2011)
  • Pink Pamper Packs for women (2008)
  • Monthly Dinner Chats to various Redlands Restaurants
  • Bus Trips
  • Topic Nights with varied local speakers

Through these programs we have had a significant impact on the lives of women in countless ways. Specifically, the Centre touches a lot of women each year:

  • Over 2000 women on our database
  • Over 150 women are financial members
  • Over 5500 women follow us on Facebook
  • Over 600 women have attended our annual International Women’s Day event
  • Over 250 women have done our Live your best life course
  • Over 250 women have gone through our Young Mums Program
  • Over 2500 women come to the Centre each year

Since inception we have handed out nearly 2000 pink pamper packs and distributed over 4000 nurture packs annually

The Centre receives no recurrent operational funding, primarily relying on fundraising through donations, membership, sponsorship and events, trivia night, garage sales, Bunnings BBQs and small community grants.

Welcome to the Redlands Centre for Women.  

Becoming President has certainly been one of the most challenging but rewarding things I have ever done, and I am honoured to be part of an organisation that seeks to uplift local women with knowledge and friendship.   

Our group of friendly, passionate and committed women serve our community in so many ways, and I am in awe of their ongoing commitment to volunteering.  

Being part of this group is a way to meet some wonderful people, give back to the community and have lots of fun while doing it, and I look forward to continuing in this role to the best of my ability for as long as I am able.

Karleen Delphin

TREASURER

I’ve lived in the Redlands for 50 years after emigrating from Canada with my parents & sisters. I took on the role of Secretary for the Alex Hills High School Music for 4 years.

I was Treasurer at the Alex Hills Anglican Church for 7 years & now been Treasurer for the Capalaba Girl Guides for the past 13 years. I’ve been involved with RCW since 2019 and became Treasurer in 2020. I attend Bookclub, RAW Walks and Dinner Chats, and anything else I can fit in to my busy schedule.

Deb Schimkat

VICE PRESIDENT

I have lived in the Redlands for 35 years and have volunteered on sporting and community based Not for Profit committees for 15 of those years.

Currently I volunteer for Victoria Point/Redland Bay Meals on Wheels and Pink Magic Netball Club and joined the Redlands Centre for Women at the end of last year. I have attended several workshops and courses in governance and management for Not for Profit organisations, and specialise in this field.
